Electric bicycle classes, sidewalk ban, age, and helmets

Massachusetts defines Class 1 and 2 e-bikes up to 750 watts; state law has no Class 3 e-bike category. E-bikes may not be operated on sidewalks. Local authorities may regulate path use, and natural-surface nonmotorized trails require local permission. Riders age 16 and younger must wear helmets.
