Electric bicycle classes, age, helmets, and trails

Michigan defines three e-bike classes up to 750 watts. Class 1 may use linear/rail trails unless prohibited; Class 2 and 3 require authorization on those trails, and e-bikes are generally barred from natural-surface nonmotorized trails absent local permission. Operators under 14 may not operate Class 3 except as passengers; riders under 18 on Class 3 must wear helmets. Local/agency restrictions require public hearing.
