Electric bicycle classes, age, and helmets

South Dakota defines three e-bike classes up to 750 watts. Class 1 and 2 may use paths unless prohibited; Class 3 generally requires an adjacent-road path or express authorization. Natural-surface trail access is locally controlled. Class 3 operators must be at least 16; operators under 18 and Class 3 passengers must wear helmets.
