Electric bicycle classes, age, helmets, and local powers

Tennessee defines three e-bike classes under 750 watts. Under-16 riders may not operate Class 3; Class 3 path/trail use is limited to a path adjacent to a road or expressly allowed. State and local authorities may restrict Class 1 and 2 on roadways and paths. Class 3 operators and passengers must wear helmets. Public Chapter 651 includes 2026 changes effective April 1 and July 1.
